An introduction to playing Pyramid Solitaire

Start Pyramid Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Read the objective before making your first input. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Pyramid, stock and waste; one stock recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Practice with a purpose

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Make the next step deliberately.

What you need to achieve

Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

The order of play

  1. Only uncovered cards are selectable. Pairs total 13; a king removes alone.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Choosing and moving on screen

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A closer look at one example

An exposed queen pairs with an ace; a jack pairs with a 2. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Check the rule before repeating the action. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
